The Importance of Labour Awareness Training in the UAE 2019
There is a growing demand for fresh and skilled talent on a global scale and companies are doing their best to get hold of the best for themselves. While companies around many parts of the world do not have to think twice before hiring talent, the same cannot be said for the UAE.
According to a new requirement, companies in the UAE have to ensure that any new employment residence permit applicants that fall under professional levels three, four and five of a new Emirati Vocational Classification scheme must attend a Labour Awareness session anywhere in the UAE. This must be done prior to the approval of their employment contract by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It can, however, be noted that this requirement does not apply to employees sponsored by companies in free zones.
To make conditions easier, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has designated 37 taw-jeeh.aetaw-jeeh.aeall over the UAE. This will ensure that companies receive the right guidance on the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees prior to any contractual engagement.
What does Labour Awareness Training involve?
Here are facts to know about the Labour Awareness Training session-
- It involves a 1.5-hour classroom session accompanied by an informative video on the employment regulations in the UAE. The video is displayed in 16 different languages.
- Post-training, attendees will be issued their labour contract and a mobile phone SIM card. The mobile SIM card is meant for facilitating communications between the employee and MOHRE.
- People seeking employment in the UAE must be physically present for the training session, at any of the Tawjeeh centres across the UAE.
- The fee for the training session is AED 203 without the requirement of any prior bookings.
What must employers do?
In this case, when the Labour Awareness Training has become a necessity for certain professions in the UAE, employers and foreign nationals must take careful steps to ensure they are in line with the new requirement.
National employers must be accountable for any extra time that might be required to obtain a new employment residence permit by applicants in select designations. They must also bear the responsibility for any additional costs that might be associated with the awareness session and the issuance of the labour contract.
On the other hand, foreign nationals must assure their availability to attend the training session as soon as possible in order to avoid delays in the immigration process.
